Really pleased with my new Casio Wave Ceptor watch. The time signal pick up is really impressive (it even works when stored in my desk draw in its smart presentation case made of metal!). I really like having both an analogue and digital display as the time is easier to see when your eyesight is not what it used to be without glasses but you still have the date and stopwatch functions of a digital watch if required. Service from the Watchshop was excellent and they nicely pre-adjusted the watch braclet so I could wear it straightaway something that can spoil other on-line watch purchases for watches with metal straps. Overall Im very pleasesd and I would definitely recommend their speedy service to anyone considering using them (when previously Ive only ever bought from a well know on-line vendor who also sells books!)
I was really cautious about buying a watch this time round, because pretty much every single watch I've had for the last decade has failed because the strap has given up, or the mounting points for the strap have failed.
I really like the Waveceptor watches, but any with a resin strap were right out. Also, a number of the metal strap watches have plastic mounting points on the body of the watch that the strap clips into - these are what have broken for me before. So, this watch was just what I wanted - classic simple look, no second hand, metal strap in metal body. It shows every sign of being built well and looks like it will last.
The watch arrived (next day, by special delivery) well packaged in a very neat presentation tin. It required a little bit of setting up to get the time right, since it was set to the wrong time zone (Berlin?) on arrival. The manual explains how to do this and it only took a few minutes to set it to London and then make it do an update of the time from the radio source.
What was much harder was to adjust the metal strap to the right size. In this case you have to push out the metal pins that hold the adjacent links together, remove some links and slide the pins back in. Getting the pins out is a real challenge - they are really stiff, although some are stiffer than others. I used an unfolded paper clip held by a pair of pliers in the end, although something of slightly harder metal than a paper clip would have been better. Don't forget to push the pins out in the direction of the arrow on the back of the strap and when they do come out be very careful not to lose the tiny cylindrical piece that goes round the pin in the middle section of the strap. This tends to fall out when you pull two pieces of strap apart, and if you put the pin back in without it, the pin doesn't hold firmly. Unfortunately there were no instructions in the manual on how to deal with the strap, so I had to work out the above via web searches and trial and error.
Still, even setting the strap to the right size didn't take more than 45 minutes, and you only have to do it once.
To begin with I felt that the watch was a bit heavy, having been used to a resin watch recently, but now a week or two on, I don't notice the weight any more and it is comfortable on the wrist. The display is clear under all lighting conditions, although the LED light at the bottom of the face isn't as nice as the background glow you get for a light on some watches. The hands and the hour marks glow in the dark for a while after exposure to light. So far the mineral glass dial has lived up to its description of being scratch resistant.
There are a couple of nice features you can set up including a mute mode which means the watch doesn't beep when you press buttons and a favourite city in world time mode which is handy. Unfortunately there is no way to turn the date round to show the month and day in UK order (ie 23/9) rather than US order (9/23) which is a shame - I've seen this feature on some watches before.
Overall, I'd have to say that this is a great classic style watch with 21st century features like Waveceptor. If there had been the same body available with a leather rather than metal strap, I'd have probably chosen that, but the advantage of this style is that I could switch the strap to a leather one later.
Firstly the selection of watches on the Watchshop website was amazing. I easily navigated to the watch I wanted, the Casio Wave Ceptor WVA=M240DE-2AVER. The price was not as competative as Amazon, but the speed of delivery and packaging was first class. This watch is superb in that it doesn't need to be adjusted in any way and keeps time by radio at night while you sleep.
Easy to read face, hands show up well in low light. Easy to change timezone. Good range of functions, eg day/date, alarm (a bit too quiet), stopwatch, countdown timer, etc. Stylish but not fancy. Radio controlled so you can rely on the time being accurate. Overall a very good watch.
I fancied a new Casio watch and bought one which cost £112 When it arrived I didn't like it as it seemed to be too heavy and didn't give the information I wanted so I contacted Watchhshop and returned it. The lady asssitant was very helpful and together we settled on another watch we suited my reuirements. When it arrived I was pleased with it and took it to a Jewellers to have the strap adjusted at her suggestion. I am now wearing it all day. I will taking it on holiday as it has alarm and a World time feature and since I am going to Bulgaria I shall be able to adjust it for Moscow time which is two hours ahead of Greenwich mean time.
